Rolls Royce is set in Sandy Springs, GA which was at a time starting ~1971 to decades later.
It was still the Peace and Love Generation and being young was being on the edge, being broke was a trap. Poverty while living it, sucks, but it combined with other family drags may become a misfortune, and all the things that come with misfortunes.
The struggle may be converted into a blessing, rousing a man to that struggle with the world in which he is a competitor no matter where his roots. Though some may not get fair gale early that buys ease, the added burdens force right-minded & true-hearted to find strength, confidence, and triumph.
The Rolls Royce is actually a metaphor for poverty for that time period and still since they were so expensive, and only very, very rich people could afford them. This symbol of a Rolls Royce was rejected, for poverty destroys personal liberties, and makes one want to find a way to get out of it.
Mt Vernon Rd is mentioned that is a long road that runs through Sandy Springs and many other roads near Sandy Springs High School. That whole area being the North side of Atlanta had everything for sports and entertainment around Roswell Rd, Abernathy, Lake Forest Dr., Allen Park, huge Chastain Park, Buckhead and Piedmont areas, which was great for nightlife.
Most either went to or worked at the Tenneco at least once at Roswell Rd and 285 near Carlos McGees and the Prado.
